Oh man, you gotta hear about this report I stumbled upon. The part that had me hooked — like, actually stuck on it — was all about this Black Panther game which was supposed to mess around with the Nemesis System. Cliffhanger — a new crew with folks who used to work at Monolith Productions (you know, the geniuses behind Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, Shadow of War) — were cooking up something insane. They wanted to, like, take the Nemesis System and turbocharge it. Sounds wild, right?
Anyway, so here’s the scoop on the Nemesis System. Monolith designed these enemies that weren’t your run-of-the-mill bad guys. They had beef with the main dude, Talion. Real grudges. Like mortal enemies, except they keep coming back tougher. After losing a fight, some would pop back stronger. There were even ones that defeated Talion, probably super confused seeing him come at them again. These guys would even climb the ranks among the Uruks. Not just cannon fodder but basically frenemies you’d love to hate or hate to love.
Now, imagining this stuff in a Black Panther game? Man, I can’t even. Apparently, there were gonna be a bunch of heroes you could play as. T’Challa, duh, and Shuri — love her energy, always sass and brains — and then Killmonger, the scene-stealer no one can forget from the 2018 movie. Another layer of this madness? An alien invasion. Skrulls! Those shape-shifting dudes from Captain Marvel. It’s all too much in the best way.
Skrulls are perfect Nemesis System fodder. Imagine your buddy suddenly pulling a face-heel turn, revealing they’re a Skrull leader who’s been playing you all along. Crazy, right? Like a spy thriller mixed with superhero action. Just the thought of it gives me chills.
But, ugh, here’s the kicker — EA dropped the ball. So no souped-up Nemesis System for us. Plus, the developers who dreamed this up? Now they’re off trying to figure out their next gig, all because EA couldn’t get its act together. Real shame.
