The Pokémon Company International just dropped some news, and, whoa, it’s a doozy – or maybe it just seemed that way because I hadn’t had my coffee yet. So, anyway, heads up: The Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion is hitting Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket next week. Mark your calendars for July 30, 2025. Not that I ever remember dates like that. But who cares, it’ll show up when it shows up, right?
Okay, so the Johto region is getting a shout-out. Remember Pokémon Gold and Silver? Ah, the nostalgia. Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile are making a comeback, along with Lugia and Ho-Oh. Legendary stuff. Quite literally. I mean, who didn’t want a Lugia? It’s like they’re reaching into my childhood and pulling out all the feels.
Here’s something weirdly exciting — you can mess around with Pokémon that can attack without Energy. Which is pretty awesome? I mean, maybe it makes battles go wild. Or not. Depends on your style, I guess.
Oh, and this thing coincides with some trade feature updates. So, dig this: there’s this Wishlist thingy, where you can flaunt the cards you’re desperate for. Up to 20 cards, but highlighting just three. Like, what if you change your mind? Guess you’re stuck with those three sexy picks on your profile yelling, “Trade me!”
Tangent warning — they’re ditching these trade tokens. Something else is coming, like ‘shinedust.’ Sounds sparkly. You get it from game missions or, who knows, maybe emptying out your duplicates. Hmm. Trade tokens are still around, thank goodness they’ll turn into pack hourglasses (like, what a mouthful) and shinedust. But act fast, because no more trading cards for tokens after July 30 — oh joy, more deadlines.
Also, you can download Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket on iOS and Android. Not that it’s big news. But maybe now’s a good time to dive in, or not. Up to you.
I think there’s a trailer for the expansion? Honestly, I’ve been bouncing around too much trying to remember if I left the stove on. Check YouTube. Or don’t. Whatever floats your boat.
