Alright, so here’s the thing—I didn’t see this coming. After Silent Hill 2’s remake totally flipped my skeptical mindset like a pancake, Konami is pairing up again with Bloober Team to give the original Silent Hill from 1999 a facelift. You know, they’ve just kind of whispered it’s ‘in development’, with both Bloober Team and Konami on board. But when’s the release date? Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they’re trying to keep us on our toes.
Funny thing is, it’s not like I’m shocked. I mean, Bloober and the publisher hinted they’d collaborate again post-Silent Hill 2 Remake. So, pretty much everyone (including moi) had this hunch they’d tackle Silent Hill and maybe Silent Hill 3 next. After the stellar job they did on Silent Hill 2, it’d be criminal not to let them loose on more classic horrors in the lineup, right?
Thankfully, it seems Konami’s reading from the same playbook. Silent Hill fans, buckle up for another eerie trip to this misty, spine-chilling town. Rather than hanging out with James Sunderland and his sorrow, we’re joining Harry Mason—a widowed dad—off to this unsettling place with his adopted daughter. Sure, it sounds a bit like Silent Hill 2’s setup, but stay with me.
On the road to Silent Hill, Harry and Cheryl crash. When Harry wakes up, poof—Cheryl’s vanished. And thus begins a saga of Harry hunting for her and bumping into creepy creatures and all sorts of oddballs. Yeah, you might think it’s got that Silent Hill 2 flavor, but trust me, there’s a whole wild ride in Harry’s world I won’t ruin for the newcomers.
Bloober’s got its hands full—no doubt—remaking yet another Silent Hill chapter. Talk about a mountain of pressure. Still, given the kudos they raked in for Silent Hill 2, my excitement for anything they touch in this franchise is sky-high. What’s your take on all this?
