Ugh, okay, so Microsoft is messing around with this new thing for the Xbox app on PC. Picture this: one spot to find all your games. Except, well, only if those games are from certain third-party stores. Like, seriously, we’re talking Battle.net, EA, and Riot Games—those last two already hang out in the app thanks to Game Pass. Riot and EA are like that friend who always shows up uninvited, but you’re cool with it ’cause they bring snacks. Anyway, got sidetracked there.
Dunno why, but they chose those first. They did hint more are coming, so don’t freak out if you’re a Steam or Epic fan. I mean, imagine all your games chilling together like some kind of awkward neighborhood block party. That’s what this could be. It’s like the app wants to be the cool new hangout spot, probably because it’s all built into Windows 11 now. Makes sense or maybe doesn’t. Whatever.
And oh, don’t get me started on GoG Galaxy. It does this too, sorta. But hey, sometimes you just want the Starbucks everyone else is holding instead of your secret favorite small-town coffee joint. Know what I mean?
Seems like Microsoft is really leaning into the whole "Xbox is more than a console" vibe. I guess they’re pushing away from being just a console thing to, like, a whole lifestyle brand—or something that sounds more markety. First, they had Game Pass, which was already kind of a big "yeah, we’re on PC now too" flag. And with these Xbox handheld PCs coming out, they’re basically saying, "Forget big black boxes under your TVs."
But wait, we’re not sure when this feature’s going mainstream for everyone. They’re kicking things off with some fancy ROG Ally handhelds over Christmas. So, patience is the name of the game, or maybe next year sometime, who knows? Microsoft isn’t exactly yelling from the rooftops about this just yet.
Anyway, if this sort of stuff moves your needle, apparently you can follow Tom’s Hardware for updates. Sounds like they’re doing tech news on the reg. Just don’t forget to hit that follow button like it’s the snooze on a Monday morning.
So, yeah. There it is. My brain’s a mess, but I think that covers it.
