Alright, let’s dive into this. So, I was hyped like everyone else for June’s Capcom Spotlight. Resident Evil Requiem was supposed to blow our minds, right? Well, not really. We got a peek, sure, but it wasn’t the full-blown gameplay extravaganza we were all crossing our fingers for.
What’s up with that? Well, Capcom seems to have a plan for why they’re steering this sequel into new waters. Not that it’s clear to everyone, but hey, they have their reasons.
Now here’s the kicker—the segment was more of a “Creativity Unleashed” kind of vibe, with a developer diary approach. There was gameplay here and there, but mostly it was folks chatting at us. Typical, huh?
Oh, and spill the beans they did—turns out, our main character, Grace, has ties to the Ashcroft family from the Resident Evil Outbreak days. How’s that for nostalgia? This game is veering away from the Winters saga and tapping back into the whole Raccoon City and Umbrella madness. I guess 30 years in, it’s a good time for a throwback.
But why isn’t Leon Kennedy front and center? Surely he’d fit right in with the city’s history. Simple answer: Capcom needed someone to freak out more easily. Leon’s too chill under pressure, apparently, so they went with Grace. She’s more like your average gamer—gutsy, but not fearless. Works for me.
Interestingly, they decided Grace could reflect us average Joes (or Janes) while still being able to handle a gun—because, yeah, she’s an FBI agent. So, not too green, not too seasoned. A nice middle ground, I guess.
And for all you camera angle enthusiasts, rejoice! Requiem is keeping it versatile with both first and third-person perspectives. No, not because of any third-person DLC from Resident Evil Village. It’s just—players are picky, I suppose, sticking to their preference once they make up their minds.
Mark your calendars, folks: February 27, 2026. That’s when Resident Evil Requiem hits PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s gonna be a ride, whether we’re ready or not.
