Oh man, so Square Enix just dropped this bombshell during their Letter from the Producer livestream — yeah, the one on Friday. You know those cat and bunny folk in Final Fantasy 14? Hrothgar and Viera? Well, they’re finally getting headgear options like they’ve been dreaming about. Part of Patch 7.3, so says Square Enix. Was this planned ages ago or just a spontaneous spark of genius? Beats me.
These Hrothgar and Viera guys, they’ve been around since 2019’s Shadowbringers (wow, time flies, right?) and ever since, those unique noggins with their fancy ears couldn’t flaunt all the cool hats. Sad times for our furry friends. But hang tight, ’cause the good times are rolling in, and it’s about time they get the crown jewels—or helmets, technically. Square Enix says more hat stuff is coming. Fingers crossed they focus on the ones we gotta pay for, because, duh, that’s where the real fashion showdown begins.
And as much as I adore a good hat story—there’s actually more happening. FF14’s producer dude Naoki Yoshida and his pal Toshio Murouchi spilled more beans. So, Patch 7.3 isn’t just about hats. It’s called The Promise of Tomorrow and wraps up the Dawntrail saga in early August. Like, its name is a plot spoiler already or something.
Then there’s the whole allied society scenario with these cats—I mean, new friends called Yok Huy. We’re also getting this expert dungeon, The Meso Terminal (are we supposed to know what that is?), plus a trial with, like, easy-hard and extra-hard modes—because why not. There’s a massive 24-player alliance raid too, called San d’Oria: The Second Walk. Unreal trials versus Seiryu — quick, someone Google what that means. And a new Deep Dungeon, Pilgrim’s Traverse. Honestly, the dungeon naming game is off the charts.
But, let’s not kid ourselves—none of this can compete with the utter joy of Hrothgar and Viera folks finally strutting around with hats. Six years, can you believe? A whole six-year hatless horror story, over.
In case you’re wondering, Final Fantasy 14 Online is chilling on Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox Something — wait, Xbox One and Series X, got it. Euler’s disk, I hope I got that right.
