Okay, so there’s this Super Mario Maker 2 junkie — err, player, right? Goes by the name DSteves. And buckle in because this story is a ride. Dude’s just cleared a million levels in the game. I didn’t even know there were that many! It’s like saying you ate a million slices of pizza. Impressive? Depends on how you look at it, but I think it’s nuts. Anyway, that community’s all hyped up about it. I mean, the dedication, the time spent — whew!
So, Super Mario Maker 2, in case you haven’t heard (where ya been?), lets folks whip up their own crazy Mario levels. You don’t have to be a creator though. You can just sit back and jump around in endless Mario levels made by other people. Sort of like a buffet, but for games.
Anyway — or was it wait, no — here’s the kicker. DSteves didn’t just play for a bit and move on. Nope. Celebrated the game’s sixth birthday by streaming and playing 18 hours straight. Cleared 1,000 levels just in that session. How do you even sit that long? My back’s aching just thinking about it. So now, on average, that’s about 456 levels a day for six years. I can’t even commit to a TV series that long!
And guess what? People love this guy. They’re calling him legendary, tossing him all sorts of virtual high-fives. Imagine being able to say you’re number one out of 8.42 million. And as if a million wasn’t enough, by the end of June, he tagged on an extra 50 levels. Just like that. Some people just can’t quit.
But it’s not like he’s the first. Remember back in 2024? Weird year. When folks realized the original Super Mario Maker was getting unplugged, a group called Team 0 jumped in to save unplayed levels. Ended up clearing 40,000 courses in half a year. Totally mad in its own right.
And I got sidetracked, but yeah — the things people do for Mario, right? What’s next? Running a marathon while clearing levels? Or maybe that’s already been done. Who knows.
Anyway, gotta love these gamers. Always pushing the envelope.
