I remember booting up my old Game Boy Color. Those were the days. Anyway — uh, what was I saying? Oh, right, Wayforward. They’ve made some killer games over the years, like Shantae. But here’s the thing, they’ve also, like, dipped their toes into a bunch of licensed stuff. Remember Sabrina: The Animated Series – Zapped? I mean, no clue why it stuck in my brain, but it did.
You play as Sabrina, this teenage witch who, surprise surprise, turns her friends into animals. And they start, well, going wild. The goal? Bop ’em on the head and spell them back to normal. Along the way, you kinda pick up new spells. Like, double jump! And Salem, her sassy cat, creeps through tight spots. Oh, and a bubble! Yeah, floating in a bubble, classic Sabrina move, right?
The levels are all over the place, but not in a bad way. Some make you really rely on that bubble thing. Others? You’re stuck playing as Salem half the time, trying to break blocks or whatever. It’s not like, groundbreaking — Game Boy Color was like, ancient tech. But, in its own quirky way, it showed off what those little cartridges could do.
But, man, let’s talk controls. Everything’s mapped to that B-button. I kept messing up, getting hit ‘cause I was too busy trying to figure out if I was running or casting a spell. Classic, right? And yeah, for a game of a show-off of another show, it’s kinda surprising how decent it plays. Shantae wouldn’t be the absolute gem it is without this weird little prequel, if you think about it.
So, Sabrina: The Animated Series – Zapped? It’s not gonna change your life, but it’s not a waste of time either. Play it once, put it down, but hey — maybe it’ll cast a spell on you too. Who knows?
