So, here’s the deal. I missed out on the original Bravely Default on the ol’ Nintendo 3DS. Yeah, I know, kinda wild since folks kept raving about how it was up there with Final Fantasy. Fast forward to PAX East 2025, Square Enix throws a curveball with a demo of the Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster. Lucky me, right? Fresh eyes on this gem because, hey, ignorance is bliss sometimes.
First up, you love HD, right? No dual screens this time, which probably would’ve bummed me out if I ever used them. Anyway, graphics are slick, really popped. Chatted with a Square Enix rep about it. Maybe I nudged the idea of remastering the sequel? She didn’t spill, but I might have planted a seed. Or maybe not—who can say?
Here’s where it gets weird: trying to dive into a rich RPG like this during a quick demo? Not exactly ideal. I ended up blitzing past dialogue like it was a race. But the combat, man—it’s a wild ride. You got your Brave and Default moves. Brave is like going all out with a flurry of attacks, but it leaves you hanging out to dry defensively for a few turns. Default? More like holding back, saving turns. Being the reckless sort, I went full throttle with Brave. Not the smartest, but hey, it was fun.
Didn’t get around to the job system, though. Time crunch and all. But, hey, I’m sold. Kind of silly I skipped it on 3DS, but this version is calling my name. Mark your calendar for June 5 if you’re jumping on the Nintendo Switch 2 train. It’s gonna be a blast.
